Don J. Evans, 78, Roachdale, died Sunday at Putnam County Hospital.

Born in Russellville, he was the son of Lee and Ruth (White) Evans.

A 1946 graduate of Waveland High School, he attended Purdue University. He was a member of Bainbridge Christian Church where he had served as a deacon and later as an elder.

A farmer, he retired in 1998.

He married Marlene Kaye Clampitt on Feb. 18, 1977 at Bainbridge Christian Church. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Diane Mount and husband Rick, Arkansas, and Sandi Young, Indianapolis; two sons, Gregory Evans and wife Dianna, Indianapolis, and Bradley Evans and wife Debbie, Greenwood; three stepsons, John Clampitt, Coatesville, Robert Clampitt and wife Janet, and Joey Clampitt and wife Patty, all of Roachdale; stepdaughter Pamela Burke, Coatesville; two sisters, Patricia Hendry, Willington, N.C., and Phyllis Brodersen, Greenwich, R.I.; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Terry and stepdaughter Virginia Clampitt Eberwein.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Servies and Morgan Funeral Home, Roachdale, with burial in Roachdale Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.
