James Shaner, 65, Indianapolis, formerly of Greencastle, died July 16 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Born in Lafayette, he was the son of Barney and Florence Shaner.

He attended schools in Greencastle and graduated from Fillmore before later attending Indiana State University.

He married Carolyn Virden Shaner in 1974. She survives.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in Vietnam. He worked for American General Finance in Indianapolis and Mercury Finance in Las Vegas and Waukegan, Ill. He also owned and operated C.J. Scooters restaurant in Greencastle.

He is survived by his wife; sister Carolyn and husband Ralph Price, Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Shaner.

Memorial services will take place at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Maple Hill Cemetery, 645 S. Harding St., Plainfield, with Rev. James Littlejohn officiating. Arrangements were handled by Veterans Funeral Care.
