Thelma B. Liechty, 97, Clay City, died Sept. 6 at Mill Pond Health Campus, Greencastle.

Born in Clay County, she was the daughter of John and Clara (Krieble) Weatherwax.

A 1927 graduate of Clay City High School, she was a member of Beech United Methodist Church as a young woman and New Hope Baptist Church for the rest of her life.

She married Marco I. Liechty on Dec. 23, 1927. He died Dec. 1, 1982.

Surviving are her children, Donn Liechty and wife Mary, Clay City, Joe Liechty and wife Suzanne, Greencastle, and Hope and Art Schlegel, Plainfield; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Tarquin, Bill, Leonard and Charles Weatherwax, and sisters Rose Lenning and Juanita Gerber.

Services were conducted Sunday at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City, with Nathan Couch officiating. Burial was in Beech Cemetery.
