Tara Thornburg wants to meet new people while making her mom proud.

That is why she entered as one of 10 candidates vying for the 2006 title during the annual queen pageant, set for 7 p.m. Saturday, July 15 in the Community Building at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Admission is $2.

The daughter of Bill and Michelle Thornburg, Russellville, and the sister of Dustin, she is a 2006 graduate of North Putnam High School. She will be attending Indiana University in the fall with plans to attend medical school to become a physician with a pediatrics speciality.

Thornburg is a North Country 4-H club member, and in high school was active in volleyball, basketball, softball, track, National Honor Society, Key Club, student council, Teen Student Leadership Academy, prom committee and was a student mentor. She says her hobbies are fishing, camping, and hanging out with her family and friends.

The best advice she offers to a younger person is, "You only get out what you put in something so when going for your goals put all you have into it and you will be sure to be successful."

She says the event that has had the greatest impact on her life can not be pinpointed because many different events and people have impacted her life.

"Each person I have encountered has impacted me differently and effectively. That is why I am who I am," she said.

The people she admires most are her family. "They are very supportive and love me for who I am."
