Downtown Farmers' Market starts Aug. 5

Friday, July 21, 2006

Main Street Greencastle announces the Putnam County Downtown Farmers' Market on the north side of Greencastle's courthouse square every Saturday morning from 8 a.m.-noon starting Aug. 5 and running through Oct. 28.

The market is open to the public and anyone wishing to be a vendor with Hoosier homegrown, home sewn and homemade goods should contact the Main Street Greencastle office.

"The market is a great way to promote local farmers and residents who have fresh produce, plants and other products from home," said Eric Wolfe, chairman of the Farmers' Market committee. "We hope the market will be a place where friends and neighbors can congregate, buy healthy foods, patronize local businesses, and enjoy our historic downtown." The types of goods the market hopes to support are fresh produce, herbs, flowers, trees, shrubs, syrups, honey, meats, eggs, breads, grains, art, crafts and much more. Main Street plans to have musical entertainment on the courthouse stage and some local downtown stores will be serving breakfast items.

The cost of being a vendor is free and all residents are encouraged to bring their items that are homegrown, home sewn and homemade. Vendors will need to provide their own tables and tents. Anyone who would like to have space at the market should call Tammy Kjonaas at 721-3411 or the Main Street Greencastle office at 653-0096 in advance of market days.

There is a short half-page application to complete, which can be found online at www.mainstreetgreencastle.org or at the Main Street office.
