Ensley announces bid to run for prosecutor

Friday, August 4, 2006

Local attorney James (Jim) W. Ensley recently announced his candidacy for Putnam County Prosecutor.

Ensley, an associate with the law firm of Delbert (Dell) H. Brewer, Attorney-At-Law, began his legal career working for the Hendricks County Prosecutor's office. It was this experience that caused Ensley to consider running for prosecutor in his home county.

"It is my privilege to be considered by the residents of Putnam County as their prosecutor," said Ensley. "I look forward to a strong campaign during which I will outline my plan to work with area law enforcement to help protect the residents of Putnam County by being an advocate for them within our criminal justice system."

Ensley is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association. He is certified to practice law before the Indiana Supreme Court, and the United States District Court for both the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.

Prior to graduating from Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis, Ensley received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Indiana University in Bloomington.

Ensley taught middle school science for the past eight years.

"I come from a long line of teachers who believed that they were not only charged with sharing what they knew about a particular subject, but also to inspire their students to use that knowledge to give back to the community," said Ensley. "In obtaining a law degree, I have a responsibility and unique opportunity to give back to my community. I will bring a fresh perspective to the prosecutor's office and will approach each case with the best interests of Putnam County in mind."

Ensley resides in Greencastle with his wife, Cathryn (Cassells) Ensley, and their son, Boyd. They are members of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Greencastle.
