'Seussical' comes to PCPH

The 45th season of the Putnam County Playhouse continues with the family musical "Seussical." It will be presented Aug. 10-12 and 16-19. All performances are at 8 p.m. There will also be a matinee performance on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. All tickets are $8 and can be reserved by telephoning the box office at 653-5880 Monday-Saturday from 5-7 p.m. The corporate sponsor of the show is Old National Bank.

"Seussical" is directed by Ric McFadden who also plays the Grinch. All of the characters in the popular Broadway-style show were created by famous children's author Dr. Seuss. The show is one of the most-produced in the catalog of Music Theater International. It is a PCPH premiere.

A trip to Whoville and an elephant that hatches an egg are only two of the musical surprises included in the show with lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. The show ran for nearly 200 performances on Broadway. Cathy Rigby played The Cat in the Hat on a nationwide tour.

Among those you will see live onstage are The Cat, played by Lita Sandy (who also choreographed the show); Horton the Elephant (Brad Sandy); Gertrude (Meghan McClaine); Mayzie (Shelly McFadden); JoJo (Matthew Watson); the Sour Kangaroo (Amanda Rollins); and General Schmitz (Bryan Schroeder).

The large cast also includes Erik Krag, Joe Macri and Jake Osborn as the Wickersham Brothers, and The Bird Girls played by Phoebe Pritchett, Kenda Cash and Mary Michael. Scott Armitage and Sharon Pilcher play the Mayor and his wife.

Others in the large cast include Caine Gardner, Heather and Linda Owens, Clay and Lily Spencer, Julie and Jessica Watson, Meredith Miller, Keri Good, Laura Gibbs, Alex Asbell, Ethan Gill, Charlie Campbell, and Dominique LaFoutant.

The pit pianist is Marilyn Burdsall. Others providing music are Mike and Brenda McClaine, percussion; Matt McClaine on guitar; and Scott Sanders on bass.

Assistant director is Ellen Pilcher and Shelly McFadden is the assistant to the director. Production stage manager is Sarah McClaine. Kullan Edberg is working on the stage crew. Costumes were supervised by Pat and Sarah Armitage. Working on the technical side are Deborah and Pat Armitage and Tyson Myrick.
