Greencastle woman dies in crash

A Greencastle woman died in a head-on collision on U.S. 231 south of New Market Friday afternoon.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Patrolman Paul Davis reported that Tracy L. Crowe, 41, Greencastle, driving a Geo Tracker, was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 when she crossed the center line for unknown reasons.

David R. Bowling, Greencastle, driving a tri-axle dump truck, was traveling southbound on U.S. 231 when he observed Crowe cross the center line. Bowling attempted to avoid hitting Crowe, but both vehicles collided head-on.

Bowling was reportedly not injured. Crowe was transported to St. Clare Medical Center in critical condition. It was reported she died about an hour after the accident.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, the accident is still under investigation with the assistance of Jim Cody, Indiana State Police Accident Reconstructionist.

The fatality is the seventh in Montgomery County in 2006, compared to 11 at the same time a year ago.
