Tiger Cubs take down Wildcats

Greencastle High School's varsity tennis squad picked up a 4-1 victory at home against South Vermillion Tuesday.

The Tiger Cubs' lone defeat came in singles action, as Rena Warren fell to South Vermillion's Hannah Henry in three sets in the No. 2 singles match. Henry emerged victorious with scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Kelsey Hennette earned an easy victory in the No. 1 position, defeating Ashley Stewart in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.

In the No. 3 singles match, Savannah Provine picked up a win over Andrea Mela in consecutive sets, 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles' action, the Tiger Cubs' Kara Phillips and Kayla Birt easily defeated Laci Virzina and Ashlee Lunsford in the No. 1 match, 6-0, 6-3.

In the No. 2 doubles position, Lorissa Miller and Ashley Watkins brought home the win for Greencastle over Chelsea Powell and Lauren Abriani. Miller and Watkins blanked the South Vermillion pair, 6-0, 6-0.

In junior varsity action, the Tiger Cubs dropped the match 4-3.

All three wins came in singles action, as Carol LaFoe, Emma Kaiser and Aubrey Merrell all picked up victories.

The Tiger Cubs will be in action again on Monday when they'll host Speedway at 5 p.m.

Next Match -- Greencastle will host Speedway on Monday beginning at 5 p.m.
