Tiger Cubs get second at tourney

The Greencastle High School golf squad closed out the regular season on Thursday by hosting the Greencastle Invitational at the Windy Hill Country Club.

The Tiger Cubs "A" team finished second in the tournament, shooting a 326, while the "B" team had a 349 for fourth place overall.

"I was extremely pleased with how the junior varsity played," GHS Coach Donovan Wheeler said. "They kind of went in with the attitude that they could challenge some people."

Whiteland won the invitational with a score of 321, while Edgewood was third at 330. Placing fifth was Cascade with a 380 and Danville finished sixth at 390.

"Varsity-wise, we were disappointed," Wheeler said. "We went in thinking we could win it."

Despite not winning the tournament, Wheeler said playing two 18-hole matches this week will help his team heading into the sectional on Monday.

"This has been a really nice addition to our schedule," Wheeler said.

For the "A" team, Eric Davis and Lee Masten both had 80s while D.J. Hendrich fired an 82. Mark Davis also had an 84 while David Lilly had an 85.

Nick Pritchard and Jacob Collins both had 83s to pace the "B" team, while Luke Crimmins had an 89. Wade Huber also shot a 94 and Kyle Harlen had a 99.

Whiteland's Bryan Stephens won medal honors with a 74.

The Tiger Cubs (16-4) will compete in the Martinsville Sectional on Monday, beginning at 9 a.m.
