Greencastle 8th-graders split with Southmont

The Greencastle Middle School eighth-grade volleyball teams split their matches against Southmont on Thursday.

The A-team defeated the Mounties in three games, 23-25, 25-15, 15-9.

The Tiger Cubs were led by Haley Miller, who put forth a 19-for-20 effort behind the service line while recording three aces and two kills.

She served nine straight successful serves in the third game to give Greencastle a 9-0 lead.

Samantha Rolings was 9-for-9 in serves while Chelsea Samuels went 10-for-12 and tallied two aces.

Mallory Miller was 6-of-7 in serves with three aces and also contributed with five assists on the night.

Greencastle's B-team wasn't as fortunate, however.

It lost to the Mounties in a close match, 15-25, 25-24, 14-15.

Kristen Hutcheson and Brooke Buckner led the team in serving.

Hutcheson was 8-for-10 in the match with three aces while Buckner went 11-for-14 behind the service line.

Buckner also recorded four aces in the match.

Braden Amis also chipped in to the effort, going 6-of-8 behind the service line.
