DANVILLE -- Despite a solid defensive performance Tuesday, the Greencastle girls' varsity basketball team struggled offensively, as the Tiger Cubs fell to Danvile, 28-17, Tuesday, dropping to 2-5 on the season.

The Tiger Cubs forced 24 turnovers in the game, but committed 37 turnovers of their own.

"It was a team effort on defense," Greencastle Coach Glenn Hile said. "They had no answer for it. We just couldn't score."

Danville went up, 6-2, after the first quarter and 16-6 after the first half. The Warriors outscored the Tiger Cubs 12-11 in the second half, sealing the victory.

Mak Leath led Danville in scoring with six points, while Stefanie Masten led Greencastle with six points in the game.

Although Hile was pleased with his team's defensive performance, he knows the Tiger Cubs need to improve on offense.

"They are a good, in your face, man-to-man team," he said. "We are struggling with that right now.

"And we can't figure out exactly why," Hile added. "We're working on it. Obviously, we know it's ball handling."

The Tiger Cubs face Cloverdale Friday at Cloverdale at 6 p.m. Greencastle lost to the Clovers, 40-35, earlier in its first game of the season.

"That was our first game of the season," Hile said. "We're a better team then we were then. You have to control Koosman and Monnett. If you control those two, you've got a chance."
