BRAZIL -- Coming off a 1-2 finish at the Twin Lakes tournament, Greencastle ran into a rapidly improving Northview basketball team that dominated the backboards and held the Tiger Cubs to just 21 percent shooting from the field.

The Tiger Cubs hit just 8-of-38 field goal attempts on the way to dropping a 46-27 decision to the Knights on Tuesday evening.

Greencastle's 6-foot-2 center Kyrian Marshall had her hands full with 6-foot-5 Northview senior Julie Whitted, who scored all 15 of her points and pulled down 14 rebounds in the first three quarters to put the game away heading into the fourth quarter.

The Knights led just 11-7 through one quarter as Lauren Robertson knocked down a 3-pointer and both Stefanie Masten and Laura Weatherford added two points.

But the second quarter was the deciding factor.

Northview was able to get the ball inside to Whitted for seven points and six rebounds and freshman Spring Raines scored six of her 14 points to put the Knights ahead 30-13 at halftime.

Applying strong ball pressure, Northview left little room for the Tiger Cubs to get open looks at the basket. The resulting defensive pressure held

Greencastle to just 1-of-7 shooting in the quarter while the Knights took 18 shots of their own, hitting nine.

Trailing 42-20 after three quarters, the Tiger Cubs made a brief run on baskets from Robertson and Marshall, but hit only three of their 16 shots in the final quarter in which they forced 11 Northview turnovers. Greencastle also hit just one of their five free throws in the quarter, missing a chance at closing the gap even farther.

For the game, Robertson led the team in scoring with 11 points and Masten added nine in the loss that dropped the Tiger Cubs to 5-8 overall this year.

In the junior varsity game, Greencastle was held scoreless in the middle two quarters of a 35-4 loss.

Up next for Greencastle is the second game of a five game road swing that continues to Speedway for a boy-girl doubleheader on Friday beginning at 6 p.m.
