Edwin Russell Walker, 79, Brazil, died Monday after a long illness with cancer.

Born in Petersburg, Pa., he was the son of Russell and Kathleen Steele Walker. The family relocated to Brazil in 1943, and he graduated from Brazil High School in 1946.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was employed at Old Glory Flag and Decorating Company in Brazil. He later joined the Brazil Clay Co. and also worked at Twigg Industries. In 1957, he and his wife moved to Greencastle, where he was employed by Omar Bakery. He joined IBM Corp. in 1966, and was later transferred to Milwaukee, where they resided before 10 years before transferring to Dallas, Texas, where he retired in 1988 before returning to Brazil. He was a member of the Ebenezer Church.

On Aug. 17, 1951 he married Peggy Ann Dowell. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Mickey C. Walker and wife Becky, Kerens, Texas; a daughter, Terri Baird and husband Gary, Newburgh; a sister Joan Allen and husband Tommy, Brazil; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at French Funeral Home, Brazil, with Rev. William Price officiating. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday prior to services.
