TERRE HAUTE -- The Greencastle Tiger Cubs' boys' basketball team discovered its opponent for next month's first round of the Wabash Valley Classic Tuesday at Terre Haute South High School.
Greencastle drew Rockville at and will face the Rox the tournament's first game Dec. 27 at 10 a.m., 12 days after the two teams' scheduled regular season meeting.
"It's the game we'll play prior to the tournament, so there shouldn't be too many secrets between us," GHS coach Troy Greenlee said.
This year marks the seventh annual Wabash Valley Classic, which alternates host sites between South and Terre Haute North. It is also the sixth consecutive year in which the Tiger Cubs have competed in the tournament.
The 2006 tournament will also see the Tiger Cubs with an early chance to avenge a loss in last year's Classic.
Greencastle lost to Rockville in the second game of the consolation round in last season's tournament, 42-40 after knocking off Monrovia, 70-56 in the first consolation round.
However, Coach Greenlee said that the tournament is less about settling old scores and more about getting an opportunity to face different teams.
"One reason we like coming over for the Wabash Valley Classic is being able to play against different teams," Greenlee said. "It's a good lesson about taking the good with the bad, I think."
Another reason Greenlee said the Tiger Cubs like to participate in four-day, 28-game tournament is that it prepares teams for the rigors of the most important tournament of the season: the sectional tournament.
"Any time you can play back-to-back games, it's a good thing because it helps to be used to that," Greenlee said. "It's going to be especially interesting to see how we respond, playing the first game.
"We've got a little bit of adversity coming over (to Terre Haute South) and playing first thing in the morning."
The Tiger Cubs are currently 0-2 on the season after losses to Crawfordsville and Edgewood.
