MONROVIA -- The North Putnam High School wrestling team went 0-5 Saturday at the Monrovia Invitational.

The Cougars opened with a 43-24 loss to Cascade and then fell to Speedway, 46-36.

North Putnam dropped a 41-27 decision to the host Bulldogs, followed by a 58-9 loss at the hands of Brown County.

NPHS ended the event with a 51-24 loss to county rival South Putnam.Alex Lance went 5-0 on the day at 189 pounds, all pins. B.J. Brewer was 4-1 with two pins at 145 pounds, and Darr Boruff was 4-1 with three pins at 171 pounds.

The Cougars will hit the mat again Wednesday at home against South Putnam, beginning at 6 p.m.

Clovers 3-2 at WeBo Challenge

THORNTOWN -- The Cloverdale High School Wrestling team went 3-2 over the weekend when it competed in the WeBo Challenge at Western Boone High School.

Cloverdale defeated Western Boone, 55-18, before falling to the Tri-West Bruins, 63-18. The Clovers' next match was a victory over Clinton Prairie, 52-21, but they followed that win with their second loss, a 48-29 defeat at the hands of Crawfordsville.

CHS ended the day with a 54-29 victory over Frankfort.

Brittney Hughes was 4-1 on the day with one pin at 103 pounds, while Kyle Chambers (112 pounds) went 1-4.

Zach Waycott was 2-3 with one pin at 119 pounds, and Zac Osburn was 3-2 with one pin at 130 pounds. Nick Keefer went 1-2 on the day at 135 pounds while Benjamin Sanders, also at 135 pounds, was 1-1.

Keefer and Sanders each wrestled at 140 pounds as well, with Keefer going 0-2 and Sanders finishing at 3-0 with two pins. Todd Rightmyer (145 pounds) was 3-2 for the Clovers with 3-2 with one pin and one technical foul while Lee Secrest (152 pounds) was 3-2.

Jacob Thompson finished at 2-2 with two pins at 160 pounds, and Derick Evans, also wrestling at 160, was 0-1.

Scott Mayhew finished 2-3 at 171 pounds, and Alex Gardiner was 5-0 with three pins at 189 pounds.

Derek Davis was 1-4 at 215 pounds, and Dylan Stone finished 5-0 with four pins at 275 pounds.

The Clovers will be at home tonight against Monrovia beginning at 6:30 p.m.
