Russellville Center wants to build endowment

Tuesday, December 26, 2006

The Putnam County Community Foundation has awarded Russellville Community Center with a $2,500 matching grant to build its endowment by $7,500.

Contributions and gifts made to the Russellville Community Center endowment will be matched, one dollar from the Community Foundation for every two dollars given by the public, from Dec. 1 to Nov. 30, 2007 up to a cumulative dollar amount of $7,500.

"The Community Center is extremely important to the Russellville area, and money from the endowment is used to pay for expenses on the maintenance of the building," said Darrell Wiatt, the president of Russellville Community Center. The Community Center, a former school building, includes a library, high school regulation-sized gymnasium, exercise room, and other areas for fellowship, crafts, TV, and roller skating. Room rental is offered to the entire community, as well.

With an endowment at the Community Foundation, contributions are never spent, but are invested and provide a charity with steady funding forever. "The Russellville Community Center endowment provides steady sustainable funding and helps Putnam County operate this valuable community asset in Russellville," said Eric Wolfe, community development director for the Community Foundation. "This matching gift opportunity increases the impact of every contribution to the endowment, which benefits the Russellville Community Center now and forever."

Anyone wanting to contribute to the Russellville Community Center endowment and have their gifts matched can send gifts and contributions to the Putnam County Community Foundation, in care of Russellville Community Center Endowment Fund, 2 S.
