NPHS girls fall to Monrovia

Friday, January 12, 2007

The North Putnam varsity girls basketball team was defeated by the Monrovia Bulldogs, 54-43, Friday night at home.

The girls battled with Monrovia most of the game but fell short due to poor ball handling and a Monrovia run.

North was led by Chelsea Green with 15 points and Brook Miller with 13.

The Cougars had a balanced offensive attack on the night as Shawna Johnston score seven points and Carlye McGaughey and Taylor Alles went for three points each.

North seemed never to get into its game and had a problem with taking care of the ball. Their defense was solid but the Bulldogs still went on a run to build a lead going into halftime of 26-18.

In the third quarter, North stayed with Monrovia on the strength of a balanced attack. Leah Crosby came up big for the Cougars in the quarter, scoring two points and coming up with a steal that led to a McGaughey bucket. The quarter ended with Monrovia on top by just four points.

The fourth quarter saw the Bulldogs score on its first five possessions and build a 13-points lead and ride that to the end to get the victory.

North Putnam will travel to Southmont next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
