SHS still on top of league standings

The seven girls' basketball teams of the West Central Conference have entered the seventh week of the season and only one team remains undefeated in league play.

Speedway is 3-0 in WCC games while going 10-5 overall.

Cascade is 4-1 in the league and 9-7 overall while Cloverdale is 3-1 in conference play and 10-7 overall.

Monrovia stands alone in fourth with a 3-2 conference mark. The Bulldogs are 9-7 overall.

South Putnam (7-10 overall) is fifth with a 1-3 league record while North Putnam (5-12) is sixth at 0-3. Greencastle (1-16) is seventh at 0-4.

The Sparkplugs are the top 2-point field goal percentage shooting team at 44.1 percent while they also lead the conference from beyond the arc at 30.6 percent. North Putnam is the conference leader at the charity stripe at 59.6 percent.

Speedway is the top offense in the conference, averaging 54.3 points per game. South Putnam has the league's top defense, giving up only 42.9 points per game.

Speed-way senior Katie Jones leads the conference in points per game. In 15 games, she has scored 262 points for an average of 17.5. Cloverdale's Hannah Monnett, also a senior, ranks third with 243 points in 17 games for an average of 14.3 points.

South Putnam junior Meghan Canary also ranks fourth with 184 points in 16 games for an average of 11.5 points per contest.

Cloverdale dominates the rebounding as two players top the league on the stat sheet. Junior Ashley Koosman has grabbed 165 boards in 17 games for an average of 9.7 per game while Monnett ranks second with 134 rebounds for an average of 7.9.

Greencastle's Kelsey Hennette also ranks third with 133 boards in 17 games for an average of 7.8.

Speedway's Lauren Miller tops the league in assists with an average of 8.5 (127) while North Putnam's Brook Miller ranks second in the league at 4.8.

Cloverdale's Chelsie Haltom leads the league in steals with 55 in 17 games for an average of 3.2 per game while Miller is second at 2.9. Monnett also ranks third at 2.5.

Cascade's Kaitie Nease leads the league in 2-point field goal percentage, having hit 74-of-147 shots for 50 percent. Speedway's Katie Jones also leads the league from the 3-point line, hitting 37.3 of her shots (56-for-150). Cloverdale's Kristin McCammon ranks third from the three-point line at 33 percent (25-of-76).

Cascade's Ashley Wichman is the top free throw shooter in the conference at 80 percent, having hit 28-of-35, while Canary ranks third at 69 percent (60-of-87).

League action continues today as Monrovia faces Brown County at home at 7:30 p.m.

Cascade will travel to Speedway for a game on Friday while Cloverdale faces South Putnam on the road Friday and Greencastle travels to North Putnam. All three games begin at 6 p.m.
