WCC title bout set for Friday

The seven West Central Conference girls' basketball teams are are in the final week of action this season and the conference championship will be decided Friday.

Speedway is the only undefeated team in conference play at 5-0 this year, but Cloverdale is hot on the heels of the Sparkplugs at 4-1.

The conference title will be decided Friday when Speedway visits Cloverdale for a 6 p.m. start.

Cascade is 9-10 overall and 4-2 in the league. The Cadets lost to Speedway Wednesday, 61-49.

The Clovers are 12-7 overall with one regular season game remaining. Speedway is 12-5 overall.

Monrovia is fourth in the conference standings with a 9-9 record, including 3-2 in league play, while South Putnam is fifth at 7-12 and 1-4.

North Putnam is sixth with a 6-13 record and 1-4 in conference action while Greencastie is seventh, standing at 1-18 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Speedway's Katie Jones leads the conference in scoring with an average of 17.5 points per game. Cloverdale's Hannah Monnett is third at 14.3 points while Meghan Canary is fifth at 11.2.

Putnam County players control the glass in the conference this season as Cloverdale's Ashley Koosman has tallied 176 boards for an average of 9.8 boards per game.

Greencastle's Kelsey Hennette ranks second at 8.1 per game while Monnett is third at 7.9.

Speedway's Lauren Miller leads the league in assists with an average of 8.5 per game while North Putnam's Brook Miller ranks second at 4.9 per game.

Cloverdale's Chelsie Haltom leads the league in steals with an average of 3.2 per game while Miller is second at 2.9 and Monnett is third at 2.6.

Monnett is also the league's third-best two-point field goal shooter at 49 percent (62-of-149). Cascade's Kaitie Nease ranks first at 50.1 percent (77-for-152).

Monnett's teammate, sophomore Kristin McCammon is the third-best three-pointer shooter in the conference, hitting 33 percent of her treys (26-of-80), while Jones is the top three-point specialist at 37.3 percent (56-for-150).

Cascade's Ashley Wichman also leads the league from the charity stripe at 80 percent (29-for-35) while Canary ranks third at 66.3 percent (63-for-95) and Cloverdale's Heather Moon is fifth at 62 percent (29-for-47).

Conference action concludes this Friday. Other league game set include Greencastle at Monrovia and North Putnam at South Putnam.

All games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
