BAINBRIDGE -- The Greencastle Tiger Sharks went into North Putnam Thursday night and dominated the night, winning 282-181-132, against the Cougars and the Eagles of South Putnam.
Greencastle started the winning early by winning the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:47.82 and placing second with a time of 1:58.30.
Nick Stevens won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.96, Mark Jedele finished second in 1:56.32 and Austin Woodall took home third in 2:04.35
"Our distance swimmers, Stevens, Jedele, and Woodall have all been coming on strong the last few weeks," Greencastle coach Paul Bretscher said. " I hope that it carries on for one more week."
Greencastle also swept the 200-yard IM with William Dory taking top honors in 2:16.43, Miles Salman grabbing second in 2:18.70, and Dustin Wood placing third in 2:19.46. Luke Crimmins won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.88 and Adam Clute finished third with a time of 24.20.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Luiz Cardoso finished ahead of the pack in a time of 1:01.42. Dory also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.25.
Jedele won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:17.47 and Crimmins won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.78.
Wood won the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing well ahead of second place with a time of 1:05.42.
Greencastle's relay teams swam well on Thursday, with the 200-yard freestyle relay team winning with a time of 1:37.87 and the 400-yard freestyle relay team dominating the competition with a time of 3:42.12.
The Cougars grabbed the top spot in diving as Brian Rhoden finished first with a combined total of 219.70. Tiger Shark Anthony Paul finished second with a total of 206.65.
South Putnam was unable to capture any wins on the night but with numerous second and third place finishes, it was able to end the night in second place.
All teams had their focus on the night at hand but the upcoming sectional wasn't too far in the back. All coaches were pleased with their team's performance but know some fine tuning had to be done before next week.
"We're just about to the points where all we're going to do is start resting and do some things to sharpen up," Bretscher said. " I'm cautiously optimistic we can cause some damage at sectional."
North Putnam coach Wesley Richardson, as well as the other coaches, commented on the recent weather and how it has played a factor in the teams training.
"We're going to be in the water this week a lot more, since we were only able to practice once this week, he said, "We'll be working on starts and turns as well as stroke technique."
"We've got a week," Eagles coach Joe Condon said. "We'll be working on technique and do about a half workout, but hard."
The preliminary round of the sectional action starts Thursday at Crawfordsville.
