Tigers knock off Emmanuel

BOSTON -- The ninth-ranked DePauw University women's basketball displayed why they are a top-10 team Friday evening as the Tigers advanced to the sectional finals (national quarterfinals) of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship after taking out Emmanuel with ease, 74-50.

The Tigers (28-3) will face Calvin today in the sectional finals at 7 p.m. Calvin, ranked seventh in the nation, defeated Southern Maine in the first game at the site, 60-56.

The Tigers never trailed against Emmanuel Friday, expanding a 15-12 lead to 30-14 with a 15-2 run in the first half. The Tigers closed the first half with an 8-1 run to take a 41-21 lead into halftime.

DePauw opened the second half with a 15-4 run and pushed its lead to more than 30 points.

Cassie Pruzin finished with 12 points to lead the Tigers on offense, hitting 3-of-4 three-pointers. Thirteen of the 15 DPU players that played scored Friday.

Jade Paez led Emmanuel with 16 points while LaTeisha Johnson finished with 12 poitns and a game-high five blocks.

DePauw had a commanding 52-31 edge in rebounding while grabbing 17 offensive rebounds. Emily Marshall paced DePauw's rebounding attack with 10 boards.

Saturday's game will be broadcast on 91.5-FM WGRE.
