Putnam County man dies in Monday crash

The family of Mark, Beth and Phyllis Legan (above) was honored as Farm Family of the Year during the annual Ag Week breakfast Tuesday at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Also honored as Friend of Farming was Saraellen Peters (right) who recently retired after many years in the office of the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District. The breakfast kicked off Ag Week events, which include the annual Field Day for county fourth-graders on Wednesday, and the Mini Farm Fest from 3-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the fairgrounds. A Putnam County man was killed and his wife was injured in a car accident on Ind. 75 in Hendricks County Monday afternoon.

Hendricks County Sheriff's Cpt. Brett Clark told the BannerGraphic that 71-year-old Glenn E. Cobb, Heritage Lake, died when his 1993 Cutlass Cierra veered off the roadway, rolling over and then striking a power pole.

The accident occurred at around 12:15 p.m. in the 800 block of Ind. 75 South, according to a sheriff's department report.

Cobb's wife, 72-year-old Mary Ann Cobb, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to Hendricks Regional Health in Danville and was treated for lacerations on her face and head. Her condition was not known as of Tuesday morning.

Clark said the officer who investigated the scene said it appeared Cobb suffered some type of medical condition which caused him to lose control of his car and drive off the road. There were no other cars involved in the accident.

Officers ruled out weather or alcohol as causes, Clark said.

Hendricks County Coroner Jason Matthews told the BannerGraphic he would perform an autopsy on Cobb this afternoon to determine if he died as a result of the accident or because of his ongoing medical condition.

Matthews said Cobb had a pre-existing heart condition and that "there is some indication" that it caused the accident.
