Tigers stay unbeaten at 10-0 with sweep of Rose-Hulman

Terre Haute -- DePauw softball moved to 10-0 on the season after sweeping Rose Hulman on Thursday by scores of 12-0 and 9-4. The Tigers are off to the best start in school history. The Engineers fell to 7-7.

Megan Soultz threw a two-hitter in game one to move her record to 3-0. She also extended her scoreless streak to 20 innings.

The Tigers scored one in the first, six in to fourth and five in the sixth. Rachel Gill and Chelsy Patterson each had four of the Tigers' 18 hits. Lauren Rees, Jessice Krueger, Kaitlyn Davitt and Laura Schlensker each had two.

Britta Bernthold had both of the Engineers' hits, and Jordan Goslee fell to 6-2 in the loss.

In game two, Jessica Bowlds broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh with an RBI single, and Schlensker followed with a grand slam to complete the scoring.

Two runs in each the first and third innings gave DePauw a 4-0 lead before Rose-Hulman came back with a three-run-fourth and one in the fifth.

Krueger, Gill, Schlensker and Kristy Mahon each had two of the 14 hits for DePauw. Gill finished the doubleheader 6-for-6.

Darcie Thomas led the Engineers' with three of their nine hits.

Katherine Veatch improved to 3-0, while Thomas dropped to 1-5.

DePauw begins a 10-game stretch in Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday.
