David J. Hellyer Sr., 68, Bainbridge, died Monday morning at his residence.
Born in Logansport, he was the son of Albert Austin and Helen Beatrice Hellyer.
He retired from the U.S. Navy after 12 years of service, and worked 30 years for Conrail Railroad before retiring. He was a member of VFW, Moose and American Legion 58 in Greencastle, where he was a member of the color guard.
He married Carolyn Tribbett, who died April 29, 2006.
He then married Carolyn Harrison. She survives.
Also surviving are children Beverly Collins, Mary Boller, David Hellyer Jr., and Roger James, all of Bainbridge; sisters Dollie, Bonnie, Becky, Kathy, Karen, Jody and Iva; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five stepchildren and eight stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11 am. Wednesday at Rockfield Cemetery near Delphi.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Chandler-Hays Funeral Home, Greencastle.
