Softball splits final pair in Florida, streak ends at 19

Fort Myers, Fla. -- DePauw softball wrapped up its ten-game Florida trip with a split of Friday's games, as they defeated Middlebury, 9-4, and lost to Wisconsin-Whitewater by a score of 5-0. The loss to Whitewater was the Tiger's first on the season, dropping them to 19-1.

Against Middlebury, DePauw jumped to a 6-0 lead after three, and never trailed. DePauw totaled12 hits, with Chelsy Patterson and Laura Schlensker each collecting three. Patterson drove in four. Middlebury finished with 11 hits, with Allison Bard leading with three, and Amelia Magistrali and Ellen Sargent each totalling two. Lauren Curosh improved to 7-0 with the win, while Jennifer Williams took the loss.

DePauw had just two hits against Wisconsin-Whitewater. Megan Soultz dropped to 8-1 in spite of allowing only three hits and striking out 10. Dianna Frisbie moved to 2-2 with the win, as th Warhawks improved to 8-3.

The Warhawks scored one in the first on Kyle Shamrek's run-scoring fielder's choice. Whitewater added four in the sixth as Liz Yucuis delivered a two-out, bases-loaded triple and scored on an error on Ashley Smith's grounder. The Tigers left eight runners on base in the contest, including three in the fourth and two in the sixth.

DePauw returns to action Tuesday when they travel to 17th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan for a doubleheader.
