'Wash-out' turns to freeze-out

Thursday, April 5, 2007

Staff reports

With Tuesday's storms postponing most area events until last night, Putnam County baseball and softball teams were ready to resume their seasons.

That was until Mother Nature stepped in -- again.

This time, it was cold, not storms, which put a stop to the local sports action. With temperatures hovering around the freezing mark and wind chills dipping into the teens in some parts of the county, athletic directors and coaches chose not to subject their athletes to the conditions.

Cloverdale was to visit South Putnam in baseball and softball. Those games have been postponed.

Likewise, Greencastle at North Putnam, baseball and softball, have been postponed.

DePauw baseball's home game against Franklin has also been postponed.

No makeup date has been announced for any of these games.

As of press time, all Thursday events are still to be played as scheduled. However, with today's temperatures not much higher, postponements and cancelations remain a possibility both today and for the remainder of the week.
