Betty Broadstreet Hamilton, 86, died March 10 in Lafayette.

Born in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Edith Hixon and Dr. Wayne Broadstreet. She married her husband of 58 years, the Honorable Judge Francis N. Hamilton.

She lived in Greencastle most of their life and later moved to Bonita Springs, Fla. after the death of her husband in 1999. Most recently, she was a resident of West Lafayette.

She worked as a telephone operator and was a homemaker.

She and her husband founded a Greencastle community scholarship to assist and encourage young men and women to seek a career in law to promote and protect those rights. Donations may be made to the Francis and Betty Hamilton Memorial Scholarship, c/o the Putnam County Foundation, 2 South Jackson Street, P.O. Box 514, Greencastle.

Survivors include children, Elizabeth Smith and husband John, Mendham, N.J., Lauralee Foerster and husband Robert, Lafayette, William Hamilton and Thomas Hamilton and wife Terry, Terre Haute; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents, brother Alan Broadstreet.

Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21 at First Christian Church in Greencastle. Arrangements are being handled by Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.
