Staff reports

Greencastle's softball team dropped a tough game to Crawfordsville, 8-4, on its home field Friday night.

Crawfordsville jumped out early and scored four runs in the top of the first to put the Tiger Cubs behind the eight ball.

"I'm extremely please with our effort," coach Dave Keller said.

Greencastle got on the board in the third inning and again in the fourth, but Crawfordsville scored three in the top of the fourth to make it 8-2.

Greencastle closed out the game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the six but was unable to complete its comeback.

Keller acknowledged this was the best hitting performance all year and that was a concern of the team's for the past few weeks.

Cassie Alspaugh tossed six strikeouts, five walks and seven hits in the game.

Greencastle had six batters reach base on the night. Alspaugh, Tabitha Wilson, Jessica Miller, Kylie Rowings, Sarah Land, Kayla Nobles and Veronica Sawyer accounted for the hits.

"We get back into the conference next week and I'm anxious to see us compete with other conference teams," Keller commented.

Greencastle's junior varsity lost to Crawfordsville 20-4.

Greencastle will host Cascade today at 4:30.
