Staff reports

CLAY CITY -- Christian Cheatham had spent the last several meets on the verge of the Cloverdale school record in the high jump. On Tuesday night at Clay City, he finally broke through, clearing 6 feet 4 1/2 inches, eclipsing a record that had stood since before he was born.

Mark McCammon held the old mark of 6'4".

"Christian has worked really hard to get the record for high jump. He has been so close the last few meets and finally got it last night. The record has been there since 1982, so we are very excited for Christian," Cloverdale coach Kristin Crabtree said.

Cheatham also picked up the win in the long jump with a distance of 19'5 1/2".

Although Clay City picked up the victory in each the boys' and girls' meets, a number of other Clovers picked up individual wins.

On the boys' side, Nick Keefer won the 300 hurdles (43.1) and Dylan Stone took the shot put (43'3"). The 400 relay also won with a time of 47.46 seconds.

For the girls, Ashley Higgins won the 200 (28.13), while Ashley McCallie took the 800 (2:49). Brynlea Mattocks won the 400 (1:05), and Ashley Koosman won the 100 hurdles (17.55). Distance runner Jenna Lewis brough home victory in the 3,200 and the Cloverdale team won the 3,200 relay (12:07). In field events, Elizabeth Cheatham won the shot put with a distance of 34'6".

The Clovers are back in action in a triangular meet at Speedway with Greencastle tonight at 5 p.m.
