Police seek Reelsville robber

Saturday, May 5, 2007

Officials at Reelsville Elementary were put on alert Friday morning following a reported robbery that took place near the school.

Putnam County Sheriff's Det. Mike Biggs, who investigated the report, told the BannerGraphic Friday afternoon that a man reportedly entered a catering business just off U.S. 40 in Reelsville at around 10:30 a.m. where he stole an undisclosed amount of cash from a worker in the building and fled on foot.

Police described the suspect as a white male, about 6 feet tall, 25-35 years old and blonde hair. He was wearing a dark-colored ball cap, plaid shirt, blue jeans and white athletic shoes.

Biggs asked anyone with information to contact the sheriff's department at 653-3211 to leave a tip.

The man who was robbed told police the suspect did not appear to have a weapon but gave some indication that he might. The victim was not injured and went across the street to call 911 after the suspect fled.

Biggs said that "as a precaution" he went to nearby Reelsville Elementary and notified staff of the reported robbery.

There was no indication that the suspect ever went near the school. The school is normally locked as a security measure.
