Cougar girls corral Mustangs

VEEDERSBURG -- The North Putnam girls' track team defeated Fountain Central, 62-53, on the road Thursday night, while the boys fell to the Mustangs, 74-49.

The North girls had six event wins on the night. Laura McGaughey won the 400 meter with a time of 1:10, Taylor Alles won the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 1:07 and Shannon Brock won the 100 meter in 13:58.

Jasmine Minns won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 19.64 and Casey Preecs won the shot put with a distance of 27-8 1/2. The 400 relay team also finished at the front with a time of 56:21.

For the boys, Griffen Dahlstrom captured the shot put title with a throw of 45-3 and Jerrett Ban won the long jump with a leap of 19-6 3/4. Tim Mason won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.05 and Craig Wood won the 100 meter in a time of 11.02.

Shane Diebold won the 1,600 meter with a time of 4:55. North also captured the high jump but no name was given.

The 1,600 relay team also clocked a win with a time of 3:42.

North Putnam will compete next in the Putnam County meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Lady Eagles fall

The South Putnam girls' track team was defeated by Danville Thursday night, 87-46, at home.

South captured three events on the night, with C.J. Searles, Brittany Cox and Shelby Johnston grabbing the wins.

Johnston won the 300 meter hurdles, while Searles won the shot put and Cox won the discus.

South Putnam will host the Putnam County meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
