Cougar softball gets 14th win

BAINBRIDGE -- The North Putnam Cougars picked up their 14th win of the season on Thursday, downing Owen Valley, 10-2.

The Cougars finished the game with 15 hits as Alyssa Simpson was 3-for-3 with two doubles.

Brook Miller also had two hits, including a grand slam and a triple. Chelsea Greene, Carlye McGaughey and Dakota Malayer all had two singles each.

Miller went the distance for the Cougars to earn the win. In seven innings, she gave up two runs off three hits while fanning 10.

Clovers fall to Shakamak

At Cloverdale Thursday, the Cloverdale softball squad dropped to 3-16 this season after suffering a 2-1 loss to Shakamak at home.

"We competed from start to finish against a very sound Shakamak," CHS coach Greg Crum said.

The Lakers tallied one run in the first and another in the third. Cloverdale scored in the fifth inning but was unable to plate any more runners.

Offensively, Cloverdale tallied five hits as Kristin McCammon was 2-for-4 to lead the way. Kayla Shepherd, Hannah Monnett and Jennifer Wiley also had hits.

Wiley picked up the loss for the Clovers, allowing two runs off seven hits and four walks while striking out four.
