Cougar baseball drops both ends of double header

BAINBRIDGE -- The North Putnam Cougars dropped two close games to Fountain Central on senior day Saturday at North Putnam. The first game they lost 7-6 and in the second they fell 17-16.

The first game saw Fountain Central jump out to a 6-3 lead until the fifth inning. After Fountain Central put another run on the board, the Cougars put up three in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one run game. But the Mustangs held the Cougars scoreless for the rest of the game and stole the victory.

Brian Blaydes and Brayden Dahlstrom took the mound for the Cougars.

Hitting for the Cougars, Griffen Dahlstrom was 2-for-3, Jake Mullis was 1-for-4 and J.T. Francies was 1-for-3 with a home run.

In game two, the Cougars and Mustangs combined for 34 hits and 33 runs in a slugfest that left the scoreboard smoking.

North Putnam gave the rawhide a ride out of the park four times and amassed 19 hits in the loss.

The Cougars were led by Kyle Alcorn, who connected on two homers and went 2-for-5 at the plate. Mullis and Brayden Dahlstrom accounted for North other two homers.

At the plate, Mullis was 2-for-4, Jordan Berry was 3-for-6, Griffen Dahlstrom was 3-for-6 and Kyle Rooker was 4-for-5. Rooker connected on a double and Berry slammed a triple, helping Alcorn, Mullis and Dahlstrom power the Cougars.

North will take the field again today when they travel to Western Boone at 5 p.m.
