BEDFORD -- Cloverdale High School junior Ashley Koosman was unable to advance to the state finals for the second consecutive year.
On Tuesday, Koosman competed for Cloverdale in the Bedford-North Lawrence Girls' Track Regional, placing fifth overall in the high jump with a leap of 5-2.
The top three placings in regional competition all advance to the Indiana High School Athletic Association State Finals, slated for June 2 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington.
Koosman advanced to the state finals last year, but did not place.
Despite Tuesday's disappointment, Cloverdale coach Kristin Crabtree said she was pleased with Koosman's year and efforts Tuesday.
"She did a good job," Crabtree said. "We wanted her to get in the top three, but it wasn't in the cards."
Cloverdale sophomore Elizabeth Cheatham also advanced to regional competition, but did not place in the shot put competition.
"She's young," Crabtree said. "She didn't have her best throws (Tuesday), but it was a good experience for her to go."
Bloomington South won the regional team title with 95.5 points. Cloverdale placed in a tie for 28th with four points.
