CRAWFORDSVILLE -- North Putnam's baseball team closed out the regular season with an offensive barrage at North Montgomery Monday night. The Cougar bats produced 28 runs on 21 hits, including six home runs.

Brayden Dahlstrom led the way for the Cougars, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and seven runs batted in. Jordan Berry was close behind at 3-for-4 with one homer and 5 RBI.

The other three long balls came from Griffen Dahlstrom, Kyle Alcorn and Shelby Reed.

Other Cougars collecting multiple hits were J.T. Francies and Jake Mullis with three apiece, and Alcorn, Reed and Jarrett Ban with two each.

While North coach Norm Fish admitted the Chargers were between conference games and likely throwing their fourth or fifth starter, he was proud of his team's hitting.

"We hit the ball solid," Fish said. "Hopefully that'll give us some confidence going into Monday."

Monday is when North opens sectional play at Cascade against the host Cadets. Cascade defeated the ninth-ranked Cougars earlier this year, handing them their lone conference loss. The game begins at 12:30 p.m.

"We'll get ready to face a really good team," Fish said.

He added one of the keys for his team recently has been on improving its defense. During a recent four-game stretch, the Cougars had 46 hits, but also had 16 errors. The errors caused them to lose three of the four games.

"Our last couple games, we've been trying to play error-free ball," Fish said. "We played error-free until the last out. I'm glad to see the errors down."
