The Greencastle boys' golf team scored big back-to-back victories Wednesday and Thursday as it gears up for sectional play next week.

On Wednesday, GHS defeated South Putnam 317-356 with Luke Crimmins leading the way with an 18-hole total 76. Eric Davis followed with a 77 and David Lilly shot an 81.

Nick Pritchard and Wade Huber each scored 83 while Jacob Collins shot an 84 and Kyle Harlan shot a 90.

The Eagles were led by Tyler Newby's 84 while Jon Weaver shot an 86. Ben Anderson and Corey Welty both shot 93 to round out the Eagles scoring.

The Tiger Cubs turned around a day later and hosted the Greencastle Invitational against Cascade and Morristown. GHS won the event with a 309, Cascade was second with 369 with Morristown third with 418.

Nick Pritchard stood tall to lead GHS with 76 while David Lilly and Eric Davis fired off a pair of 77's. Wade Huber shot a 79 and Luke Crimmins came in with 83.

"These have been two significant days for us," GHS coach Donovan Wheeler said. "What these scores tell me is that the boys are starting to capitalize on the Psychology 101 session we've been having all year."

Wheeler noted how different members of the team continue to step us and fill gaps and assume roles that are needed.

"Luke and Nick both had big days and I'm really happy for him," Wheeler said. "Eric and David are starting to play like the leaders they are, always giving us scores that help even if they don't take the lead as individuals."

Wheeler also acknowledged the play of Huber and likes his progression he's seen during the season.

"Wade's 79 was solid, but his 83 on Wednesday was more impressive," Wheeler commented. Because he was starting to fall apart and the old Wade would have let that get to him and result in a 95."

Sectional play for the Tiger Cubs begins on Monday and although an outcome is uncertain, Wheeler likes the strides his team has made and will accept the result.

"Who knows what will happen on Monday. These boys are my Yahtzee team," Wheeler said. "I've got six kids who can go pretty low and pretty high. I'll take whatever happens.

"What's most important to me is that I've got six great kids who have worked really hard to improve. Whatever happens, I'm glad we're together and I'm proud to be associated with them," Wheeler added.
