A Greencastle man was arrested Sunday and charged with battery to a child, city police said Monday.
Shaun Miles, 21, Greencastle, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Sunday for allegedly shaking, and causing serious injury, to his girlfriend's 2-month-old son, Greencastle Police Det. Randy Seipel told the BannerGraphic.
Miles was reported to be living with his girlfriend in the Northview Apartment complex where the alleged abuse took place, Seipel said.
According to police, the baby's mother called 911 early Sunday and reported that the child was not breathing. Medics rushed the baby to Putnam County Hospital where, according to Seipel, doctors "believed they observed signs of shaken baby syndrome."
The child was then taken to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis where, according to police, he remained in critical care on Monday.
Seipel said he interviewed Miles on Sunday morning while fellow Det. Michael Collins interviewed the mother. He said the couple's statements about what happened did not match, prompting him to arrest Miles.
Miles was booked on a charge of battery causing serious bodily injury to a child less than age 14. He could go before the judge on Tuesday, Seipel said.
