Mary Jane Black, 94, Greencastle, died Friday.

Born in Clarksburg, W. Va., she was the daughter of Fred and Mary Harris Glore.

She moved to this area from Rushville and graduated from Fillmore High School in 1930. She traveled to France and Switzerland in 1936 to care for young children. She worked at Montgomery Ward as head bookkeeper, and filled her husband

s position as City Clerk-Treasurer in 1943-44 while he was on active duty in France during World War II. She also worked in the DePauw University bookstore for 30 years.

She was a member of the Greencastle Presbyter-ian Church, DAR and was active in Delta Theta Tau for more than 50 years.

She married E. Gifford Black on Jan. 28, 1938. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son John Black and wife Joyce, Greencastle, daughter Barbara Black, Greencastle; sisters Betty Bloomer, Indianapolis, Suzanne Allen and husband John Dee, Greencastle; brother George Glore and wife Jean, La Mirada, Calif.; two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Nancy Brown and brother Jack Glore.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

There is no visitation.

Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, is handling arrangements.
