Cougar volleyball wins opener

MONTEZUMA -- The North Putnam Cougars opened its 2007 volleyball season with a win over Riverton Parke Monday night. The Cougars won 25-16, 25-23 and 25-12.

"Everyone played well together tonight. We did a lot of things right, including finding team chemistry," NPHS head coach Michelle Spencer said.

Some key players in the Cougar victory were Taylor Alles, Kacy Wendling, Logan Doyle, Ashley Doyle and Kayla Green.

Alles provided seven kills, two assist blocks, two service aces and four digs, while Wendling recorded 16 assists, one kill and five service aces.

Logan Doyle score two assist blocks, one kill, five service aces, two digs and two assists, as Ashley Doyle had three kills, two service aces and one digs and Green had one kill, three service aces and one dig.

"I think we set the season off on a good note, and we have a place to work from for the future. We are pleased with our progress, but know we need to continue to improve in areas," Spencer commented.

In junior varsity action, the Cougars lost to the Panthers 23-25, 23-25.

"We saw good things from the junior varsity. We can see where improvement is needed, but we certainly feel that it started out positive for the most part," Spencer said.
