Sheriff's Dept.

Several accidents were investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department recently.

On Friday:

* At 11:05 a.m. Aug. 10, a semi tractor trailer rear-ended a car on U.S. 231 at U.S. 40.

Deputy Gregg Slover reported that Lori Osborne, Brazil, driving a 2001 Ford Mustang, was stopped to turn into the gas station when she was hit from behind by a 2001 Volvo WGM, driven by Christopher Boller, Bainbridge.

Osborne said she signaled to turn, but witnesses said she did not. Boller said he did not see the vehicle stopped to turn.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

* At 12:30 p.m. Friday, two cars bumped into each other on Ind. 236 at U.S. 231.

Deputy Slover reported that Jack Tapp, Paragon, driving a 2006 International semi, said he was following a 2000 Toyota ZF13, driven by Jonathan Geisler, Upland, and that he merged into his lane, striking his left front tire. Geisler said he merged into the turn lane and did not see Tapp. No one was injured in either vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

On Saturday:

* At 2:55 a.m. Saturday, a car hit a deer on Interstate 70 at U.S. 231.

Deputy Adam Hull reported that Glenola Beatty, Wake Forest, N.C., driving a 1999 Chrysler Concorde, was eastbound on the interstate when a deer ran into the roadway and she could not avoid hitting it.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-2,500.

* At 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, a car went off the road and overturned on CR 900 North near CR 600 East.

Deputy Hull reported that William Watkins, Indianapolis, driving a 1997 Ford CWS, was eastbound and had been consuming an alcoholic beverage. When Hull arrived, the vehicle was on its side. Watkins was transported to the hospital and a blood draw was taken, showing him with an ETOH of .173. A legal blood draw was then taken with the results pending.

Damage was estimated at $750-1,000.

On Sunday:

* At 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, two cars collided on U.S. 40 at CR 275 East.

Deputy Gregg Slover reported that Kathy Sutherlin, Coatesville, driving a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, was sitting in cross traffic at the intersection and was waiting on vehicles to pass so she could proceed onto CR 725 East. When she attempted to make her turn, she was hit by a 1995 Buick Regal, driven by Polly Carter, Stilesville. Sutherlin said she did not see Carter's vehicle and Carter said she could not avoid the collision.

Damage was estimated at $10,000-25,000.
