CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale Clovers took advantage of every mistake the West Vigo Vikings made Friday night to score a 14-13 come-from-behind high school football victory.
Cloverdale, trailing 13-0 in the third quarter, took the lead with 5:16 left in the game when Sam Spinks ran 18-yards for the go-ahead score.
The first victory at Cloverdale for coach Kyle Winkler was in doubt to the end.
With 1:29 to play and the Clovers lead 14-13, West Vigo's Kamerson Silcock ran into the end zone from the three-yard line. The touchdown was nullified by a holding penalty and a 30-yard field goal attempt was wide left and Cloverdale got the ball on downs to run out the final 1:23.
With West Vigo leading 13-0 in the third quarter, Cloverdale put together a 15-play, 70-yard touchdown drive. Cloverdale quarterback Zach McCallie capped the drive with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Nick Keefer open in the back of the end zone.
West Vigo was called for roughing the kicker of the PAT kick and Cloverdale's Dillin Gray ran for two points on the next snap.
Cloverdale took the lead with 5:15 left when Sam Spinks ran 18 yards for the game-winning score. The touchdown, set up when Cloverdale's Justin Burdette sacked West Vigo quarterback Landon Keith, forcing the Viking into a futile field goal attempt.
Cloverdale ate up seven-plus minutes for the fourth quarter with a 16-play touchdown drive, capped by Spinks' run.
Cloverdale tallied 168 yards of total offense, led by sophomore Dillin Gray with 69 yards rushing and Spinks with 40 yards.
