Clovers place third

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The Cloverdale volleyball team went 1-2 in its matches at Saturday's Crawfordsville Invitational to place third in the event.

The Clovers opened the day with two losses. They fell to Crawforsville in two games, 26-24, 25-16, and to Northview in two games, 25-15, 25-13.

They won the final match of the day against Southmont, beating them in three games, 25-16, 21-25, 25-15.

Kristin McCammon led the Clovers in scoring for the day with 17 points. Ashley Koosman led with six aces.

Offensively, Koosman had 15 kills, while Erica Lotz led with 17 set assists.

On the defensive side, Elizabeth Cheatham led with nine blocks and tied with Alesha Evans with four stuffs.

Koosman also led with 15 digs.

"We faced some good competition in this tournament," Clovers coach Kathy Moore said. "Northview and Crawfordsville are always tough teams and Southmont is much improved this year."

While the losses were tough, Moore thought the experience would benefit her sqad.

"We learned a lot today and hope to make some improvements this coming week in our serve reception," she said. "In the Northview match we lost one of our seniors, Kristen Schroer, who took a hard hit to the head and face region during a dig attempt and was taken by ambulance to the hospital for x-rays where we later learned she has a broken nose.

"We hope that she will return to the team as soon as she is ready."

Cloverdale (3-4) will be back in action at 6 p.m. today at Union (Dugger).
