WEST TERRE HAUTE -- The Greencastle boys' varsity soccer team traveled to West Vigo Tuesday night and won in convincingly, 6-0.

Greg Lilly

With 13:30 played in the opening half, junior Greg Lilly scored on an assist from Pat Eiteljorge to get Greencastle started. Three minutes later, Lilly delivered a pass to freshman Spencer Moore, who was able to beat the Vikings keeper to increase the Tiger Cubs lead to 2-0. West Vigo regrouped and had a couple of chances in the Tiger Cubs end, but their attempts were stopped by freshman keeper Kyle Parker. With 5:13 to play in the half, Lilly was able to dribble through the Vikings defense for his second goal of the night. The score remained 3-0 at the break. The Tiger Cubs featured an underclass line up for most of the second half, but continued to increase their lead. Freshman Cameron Cash scored an unassisted goal with 20:50 to play in the game. Then Sophomore Destin Holmes was fouled in the penalty area and scored on the penalty kick

with 19:14 to go. Freshman Jesse Elkins rounded out the scoring, heading in a rebounded shot fired off the foot of teammate Buzz Deer with 4:12 left to play in the game.

"It was a good win for us tonight," GHS head coach Dave Lilly said. "Their field is on the small size, which helped them to clog up the middle. Their keeper also came out and picked up a lot of balls, so it was difficult for us to use our speed up front since there was not a lot of space to work in. I was glad to see us have five different players score goals tonight.

"I think we just wore them down," Lilly commented.

The Tiger Cubs (7-2) travel to Covenant Christian at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
