George T. Cox, 70, Greencastle, died Wednes-day morning at Putnam County Hospital.

Born in Putnam County, he was the son of Tonny W. and Frances Louise (Schmeltekop) Cox.

He had worked as a die-mule driver at the General Motors truck and bus plant in Indianapolis for 39 years, retiring in 1999. He had previously worked at Handy's Dairy in Greencastle. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are a son, Brad cox and wife Donna, Greencastle; a daughter, Jaimi Marie Kelly and husband Roy M., Cloverdale; five brothers, Donnie Cox and wife Verdi, Chesapeake, Va., Marvin Cox and wife Wilma, Sebring, Fla., Tonny Cox Jr. and wife Beverly , Fillmore, William Cox and wife Linda, and Derrick Cox and wife Terese, all of Greencastle; five sisters, Sara Sue Hammond and husband Edward, Kay Frances Porter and husband Larry, Lana Lynn Lancaster and husband Roy, Charmain Chew and husband Steve, all of Greencastle, and Tawny Cox, Danville; four grandchildren, a great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry Cox and sisters, Joan Wahl and Clara Mae Lemon.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Thursday.
