Tiger Cub tennis drops tough match

The Greencastle tennis team fought a hard battle with Edgewood Wednesday, but came out on the short end of some close matches to lose 4-1 to the Mustangs.

"We played a really good team, and it was a really competitive match," Coach Terry Ross said. "It was not a bad match at all."

The lone winners for the Tiger Cubs were the No. 2 doubles team of Tye Fauvergue and Clay Spencer. They defeated James Sims and Chris Glick 6-1, 6-4.

The No. 1 doubles team came up short in a three-set affair. Edgewood's Luke Nagey and Sam Burks defeated Seth Heithaus and Logan Grzesiek 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

On the singles side, No. 3 player Eric Warren had a similar experiene, as Edgewood's Alex Nagey beat Warren 1-6, 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 1 singles, Brennan Burks lost 6-2, 6-0 to the Mustangs' Ross Pruitt. At No. 2, Sam Hirt fell 6-1, 6-4 to Kory Wooter.

In junior varsity action, Jesse Elkins picked up the Tiger Cubs' second match win of the year, defeating Tyler Plunkett 8-0. Joey Kass won the JV's first match on Tuesday when he beat Southmont's Trevor Hester 7-5.

The Tiger Cubs (5-3) travel to Linton Stockton at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19.
