GHS runners take honors at Cascade

CLAYTON -- The Greencastle boys' and girls' cross country teams traveled to Cascade to face the Cadets, Owen Valley and Tri-West Wednesday night. The boys won the event with a total of 28 points and the girls came in first with a total of 27 points.

For the boys, Ben Wilson finished in first-place with a time of 17:48, while Jordan Lewis finished in fifth with a time of 18:59. Ryan Gillespie was sixth in a time of 19:48. Luke Smith was seventh, with a time of 19:51 and Austin Woodall rounded out the GHS top ten finishers in ninth-place, in a time of 19:57.

"I am very pleased with the team's effort today," GHS boys' coach Mike Schimpf said. "We had some runners participate while sick and the team showed great character."

On the girls' side, Hannah Serlin continued to lead the pack, finishing in first-place with a time of 21:34. Laura Weatherford finished fourth in a time of 22:33. Sara Culler was fifth with a time of 22:52. Kaitlin Murtagh was seventh, finishing with a time of 23:47, and Ivonne Martinez finished in tenth-place with a time of 24:58.

Greencastle will visit North Putnam at 5 p.m. Monday.
