Thursday night was senior night for the Greencastle boys' tennis team and they took that opportunity to defeat visiting Owen Valley, 3-1.
Seniors Sam Hirt, Brennan Burks, Eric Warren, Seth Heithaus and Clay Spencer all picked up victories for the Tiger Cubs.
"It was nice for the seniors. Our three singles all played really well. They all had really good years," GHS coach Terry Ross said.
With a twirl and two spins of his racket, Hirt made short work of Jordan Truax, winning 6-0 and 6-0. Hirt painted the lines, keeping Truax in continuous motion across the court throughout the evening.
Burks also breezed through the Patriots' Adam Wilson, winning 6-0 and 6-1, putting the Tiger Cubs up 2-0.
Warren battled with Bryan Redeburger, ultimately winning 6-4 and 6-3 to give the Tiger Cubs a victory on the night.
In doubles action, the No. 1 doubles team of Seth Heithaus and Tye Fauvergue fell to Cameron Babbs and Randy Leintz 7-5 and 6-3.
It was Spencer who delivered the final blow for the Tiger Cubs as he and David Cath defeated Raymond Amos and Ethan Headley 7-6 and 6-2. Spencer delivered a drop shot that sealed the win for the Tiger Cubs.
With a match on Saturday and the sectional looming on the horizon, Ross likes the chances of his squad.
"We play two matches on Saturday against quality competition and that will be really good for us. We want to get ourselves as ready as we can and I think these kids feel like they've got a chance next week (at sectional)," Ross commented.
Greencastle will travel to Danville to face the Warriors and Crawfordsville at 9 a.m. Saturday.
