Cougar girls' soccer earns split at Southmont Invite

­CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The North Putnam girls' soccer squad competed in the Southmont Invitational Saturday. The Cougars lost the first game, 3-1 against Southmont and defeated North Montgomery in the second game 2-0.

In the first game, Elsiana Crosby score North Putnam's only goal off an assist from Cara Horn. The Cougars were out shot 11-5 by Southmont.

Keeper Kate Williams had eight saves for the Cougars.

North Putnam reversed its fortune in the second game by defeating North Montgomery.

Shannon Knoblett and Brooke Hadley both scored unassisted goals to power the Cougar attack. North Putnam out shot the Chargers 10-5.

Williams earned her first shutout of the season, while making five saves.

"We hit our stride in this tournament today against two evenly matched opponents," Cougar head coach Scott Spencer said. "I am very happy with our overall effort and teamwork."

North Putnam will host Cascade at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
