Emma "Frances" Allen, 101, Greencastle, died Saturday morning at Asbury Towers.

Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of Leander and Kate (Walker) Browning.

She was a graduate of Danville Normal College with a degree in elementary education. She was a homemaker and a third-grade teacher at Miller Elementary School for four years. She also taught at Center Grove schools. She and her husband built and operated Allenhill Golf Course for several years. She was a member of Brick Chapel United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday school. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau sorority and of several other social clubs.

She married Bayard S. Allen in 1929. He died March 19, 1990.

Surviving are two sons, Bayard Allen and wife Fran, and John Allen and wife Suzanne, all of Greencastle; three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Elizabeth Bostick, brother John Browning, and a grandson.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, with Pastor Alan Small officiating.

Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions can be made to the GHS Scholarship Fund, in care of the Putnam County Community Foundation, 2 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, or to the Brick Chapel United Methodist Church.
